The Verde Valley is well known for its birding opportunities. With one major river and 5 year round running creeks, the valley offers many miles of prime riparian bird habitat. A new birding location recently opened to the public at the water treatment lagoons on 89A west of Sedona. The area is great for spotting Great Blue Herons, roadrunners, canyon wrens, bald eagles, black hawks, orioles, flycatchers, Mexican spotted owls, Coopers hawks, pygmy owls, Gamble's quail, turkey vultures, hummingbirds, and so much more!
Astronomy enthusiasts and every day star gazers will enjoy Arizona's incredible dark, starry skies right from the Arizona Vacation Hideaway. Bring your telescope for exceptional astronomical viewing! If you want even more astronomical stimulation, we are lest than an hour drive from the Lowell Observatory on Mars Hill in Flagstaff. The observatory offers tours and special programs throughout the year.
